Just after chartering our club in February of 2020, the world faced a pandemic like we have never seen in the modern world – COVID-19. During this time, blood banks were quickly drained, and lifesaving blood was in short supply. In line with Rotary International’s focus on fighting disease, Leaders in Service Rotary launched our first service project – a virtual blood drive! Over a few months, our members promoted blood donations across social media and with their friends and families. All those willing and able were encouraged to pledge a blood donation to help save lives.
In the end, we reached over 50 pledges from donors. Those donations have the potential to save up to 150 lives!
According to the American Red Cross, approximately 36,000 units of red blood cells are needed every day in the U.S., but only about 38% of the population is eligible to donate. You can help the mission of our club and Rotary by donating blood today! Find a local blood center or drive online.
